What to do when you wake up with puffy eyes in the morning

If we constantly wake up with swollen eyes in the morning, we should pay attention to them. Although if it happens occasionally, it should not be serious. In any case, it is important to know the symptoms of this discomfort, its main causes and how to remedy it.

To protect ourselves from eye problems or damage (some caused by frequent use of screens), we recommend taking Silicium G7 Vision capsules. Because they contain 17 nutrients beneficial to visual health. It even helps to slow down ocular aging.

Symptoms of puffy eyes in the morning

Having puffy eyes in the morning really means that our eyelids are swollen. The eyelids function as a barrier for the eye and prevent it from external aggressions. But, given their proximity to the organ, they can make it difficult for us to see well when they increase in size due to swelling.

We may also experience other symptoms, which may be different in each person. The main ones are as follows:

    1. Redness and irritation of the eyelid, in addition to becoming excessively dry.

    1. High sensitivity of the eye to light.

    1. Itching in the area, either in the connective tissue or in the organ.

    1. Sensation of having a foreign body somewhere inside the eye.

    1. Constanttearing.

    1. Pain also in the interior of the organ, which may be indicative of an infection.

What does it mean to wake up with swollen eyelids?

When we ask ourselves why I wake up with swollen eyes in the morning, we must consider several causes. The most common are the following:

    • Lack or excess of sleep. Not getting enough sleep makes it harder for our body to drain fluids and expel toxins. On the other hand, too much time without blinking (while resting) affects lymphatic circulation.

    • Fluid retention. It can be caused by other factors such as insufficient hydration, hormonal imbalance or poor blood circulation. Since the eyelid skin is very thin, it is also more susceptible to this problem.

    • Stress. If we suffer from it on a prolonged basis, it negatively influences the lymphatic system, even contributing to hypertension around the eye.

    • Sleeping position. It can be detrimental to maintain a face down and sideways posture, because it leads to fluid accumulation in the periocular area. It is better to lie on your back in bed with your head elevated, using a second pillow.

    • Allergies and environmental factors. We are referring to pollen, dust mites, dust or other allergens, which can cause inflammatory reactions. They lead to swollen eyes in the morning.

    • Not removing make-up properly is another circumstance that creates swelling and even infection. This is especially the case when traces of make-up or other cosmetics remain in the tear ducts.

    • Eye diseases. Among the most frequent, we can mention conjunctivitis, stye, herpes, chalazion or blepharitis. They require ophthalmologic help to treat them effectively and put an end to these viruses or bacteria. When the swelling specifically affects the upper area, it is helpful to understand what differentiates a swollen upper eyelid based on its cause and how to treat it, as the triggers and approach may vary from generalized swelling.

How to remove puffy eyes upon awakening?

The most effective treatment for puffy eyes in the morning is to apply cold to the affected area. It will help to hydrate the skin and reduce the swelling little by little. Another option is to use a tea bag (chamomile, mint, ginseng...) also at low temperature to decongest the eye region. We should not rub or touch the eye.

But, the key is to prevent the possible triggers of waking up with swollen eyes. We can carry out routines that help us to do so. Some are as basic as maintaining good hydration (drinking two liters of water a day) and following a balanced diet. It should be rich in vitamins, proteins, minerals and carbohydrates.

It is also important to sleep (face up) at least seven or eight hours for quality sleep. And, of course, take more and better care of the organ of sight, applying daily cleaning of the eyelids and even resting from the screens if we look at them for many hours. In this same line, we advise you to use the Silicium G7 Vision supplement, which we have already talked about at the beginning of the text.

Go to an ophthalmologist

In the event that the swelling is not relieved after 48 hours, despite these home treatments, you should go to a medical specialist such as an ophthalmologist. Especially if we feel intense pain or notice vision difficulties, fever, yellowish eye discharge and swelling spread to other areas of the face. He/she will give us an accurate diagnosis and explain what to do to solve the problem.

In conclusion, waking up with swollen eyes in the morning may be due to some of the causes we have explained. Keep an eye on the symptoms and try to act with prevention to prevent this discomfort from appearing frequently.
