Understanding Excess Gas and Stomach Noises: Causes and Solutions

Both gas and intestinal rumbling are normal inside our body. But what happens if I have a lot of gas and stomach rumbling? An excess of both can lead to more serious problems. In this article we explain why and reveal how to remedy them.

When to worry about gas?

During the process of digesting food, the usual thing is to eliminate the excess gas accumulated in the stomach and intestine. That is, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane.

The air we swallow is usually the most stored in the stomach area. On the other hand, most of the air that enters the intestinal tract comes from the fermentation of food and the passage of gases from the blood.

In any case, its exit takes place through belching or flatulence. That can be constant and even cause some pain. Especially if we eat foods that generate a lot of gases such as peas, chickpeas or cauliflower.

That should not worry us, because we insist that it is something natural of the organism. But what happens if I have a lot of gas and stomach noises that cause me difficulties in my daily life? When suffering from this, accompanied by intense pain, it is necessary to go to the doctor.

On the other hand, abdominal sounds are also normal. They originate from the movement of our intestines, when they are working to digest. As they are hollow organs, a greater echo is produced and we hear them relatively easily.

These noises are harmless, although in some cases they can indicate that something is wrong. It happens when they are hyperactive (we notice too many, so they have increased), hypoactive (we feel very few) or we do not hear any noise at all.

Why do I have a lot of gas and stomach noises?

Excessive gas and intestinal noises are two symptoms that can hide specific conditions. The causes are varied, as we review below. We recommend that you consult a health specialist for a diagnosis.

Causes of having a lot of gas

    • Chronicintestinal diseases (such as ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis or Crohn's disease). Can I suffer from any of these if I have a lot of gas and stomach noises? It is a possibility.

    • Overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine, a problem popularly known as alteration of our flora or intestinal dysbiosis.

    • Food intolerances. For example, to gluten or lactose, when our digestive system is not able to absorb them.

    • Constipation, a circumstance that complicates the exit of gases to the outside.

Causes of abnormal abdominal sounds

    • Obstruction of the blood vessels, which prevents sufficient blood from reaching the intestines.

    • Intestinal blockage due to hernia, tumor, adhesions or other similar problems.

    • Paralytic ileus, which affects the nerves.

    • Drug use, since substances such as opioids decrease bowel movements.

    • Having recently undergone abdominal surgery.

    • General or spinalanesthesia , since some organs take longer to recover their functionality.

    • Crohn's disease, which causes inflammation of parts of the digestive tract.

    • Ulcerative colitis, which also inflames the membrane lining the rectum and colon.

    • Allergies to certain foods (shellfish, eggs, wheat, etc.) that generate an exaggerated immune response after ingestion.

    • Infectious enteritis, which appears when we eat or drink something that contains bacteria or viruses.

How to eliminate gas and intestinal noises?

As we see, some of these causes are repeated in both cases. But what do I do then if I have a lot of gas and stomach noises along with other symptoms? If, among them, there is nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, bleeding from the rectum or prolonged constipation, we should visit the doctor.

The key to eliminating excess gas and bowel sounds is to find out the source of the problem. To do this, you can request tests such as an intolerance test, a blood or stool analysis and even X-rays and ultrasound. Always depending on each case, the best thing to do is to put ourselves in expert hands, in case there is a serious problem. And to begin to reduce the symptoms, either with medication or immediate surgery.

Next, it is important to modify our eating habits and lifestyle to make them healthier. It is usually advisable to eat a Mediterranean diet, rich in legumes and vegetables. As well as regular exercise to improve digestion.

On the other hand, taking supplements to maintain our health is beneficial. We recommend G7 Orgono Col, which helps us to prevent cardiovascular diseases, thanks to its content in omega-3, monacolin K and resveratrol.

In short, if I have a lot of gas and stomach noises, how do I solve it? You know what to do. Apart from taking into account everything explained in this text, do not forget to control the triggers to prevent.
